SAF-LOK Mk5 handcuffs are an enhanced version of the SAF-LOK Mk4 handcuff. The hinge design provides for a semi-rigid handcuff permitting restricted movement of the subject’s hands in one direction only. Restricted movement means less likelihood of the subject inflicting self-injury. The design of the handcuff provides a convenient grip for the law enforcement officer to effectively gain control of an unruly subject. Even if the handcuff ratchet arm is sawn through, the ratchet will stay in position until unlocked. The body of the handcuff is manufactured from cast, high-grade stainless steel and it also serves as the body of the lock making it a very unique design. The arm, links and link pins are also manufactured from stainless steel.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

• Handcuff locks may become contaminated and require cleaning.
• Solvents such as methylated spirits clean without leaving a residue when dry.
• Any use of solvents must be carried out in accordance with the solvent manufactures instructions.
• Personal protective equipment is to be use at all times.
• Following cleaning allow cuffs to dry in a ventilated warm area for 24 hrs with the lock opening facing down.
• At regular intervals lubricate the internal mechanism of the lock. Do this by applying graphite powder or an equivalent, (e.g. Molybond Superfine powder ZX35/S740), to the key and operate the lock with the key, ensuring that the key is inserted and withdrawn from the lock several times to ensure dispersion of the powder.
• Periodically apply a light coat of machine or gun oil to the exterior surfaces of the handcuff assembly.
• Always ensure this is carried out as soon as possible after exposure to or immersion in water.
